He Loves Us

I have been reading Jeremiah, who has been telling Israel of the impending doom. Yet in all of the chapters on the doom, there are wonderful nuggets. Today I ran across one of those nuggets.

God has Jeremiah wearing a wooden yoke.  Anytime you feel God is calling you to do something ridiculous, ask yourself if it is worse than wearing a wooden yoke and telling people “This is what is going to happen to you.”

So the Israelites got tired of Jeremiah’s bad news and began to make up their own prophecies.  Not a good idea.  God killed Hananiah for his false prophecy. God, then tells the Israelites that they will go into captivity. That they should live their lives there.  “Build houses, settle down. Plant gardens and eat what they produce.” (Jeremiah 29:5)

He had a promise for them.  For all of those who would turn to Him again, He would prosper them. You see even in the midst of our captivity God takes care of us when we focus on Him.

He is like a parent telling his child that they have earned the spanking they are about to get. But on the other side of the spanking, there is blessings for obedience. Jeremiah 29:11 is a wonderful moment God shared with His people.

No matter how angry He gets at us, He loves us. So repent and go home. God is waiting.
