Are we listening?

In Jeremiah was the opportunity for Israel and Judah to face up to their sin.

Hear this, you foolish and senseless people,

who have eyes but do not see,

who have ears but do not hear;

Should you not fear me? declares the Lord.

Should you not tremble in my presence?

(Jeremiah 5:21-22)

A horrible and shocking thing has happened in this land.

The prophets prophecy lies

the priests rule by their own authority

and my people love it this way.

But what will you do in the end?

(Jeremiah 5:30-31)

Jeremiah confronts us with how we treat God and how we live.  In Texas, we are living through the hottest summer ever recorded. There have been earthquakes all across the country over the past week, on the east coast, west coast and Alaska. Hurricanes are beating down our doors.

We are surrounded by the power of God, and we continue to talk about politics as usual.  God has promised that if His people, who are called by His name will humble themselves and pray and seek His face and turn from their wicked ways, He will hear from heaven, forgive their sins and heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

This is not about pointing fingers at others. It is about us going before the throne and confessing our sins.  We have become quick to accuse, and less likely to repent.

God is speaking to us daily. Are we listening?
